| Through
our educational programs and public services, we are able to move
closer to our goal to bring about changes in our institutions, laws,
policies, and attitudes and beliefs that will allow women, children
and men to live their lives free from the threat of sexual violence.
Our programs
include:
Sexual
Assault Resource Center—LaFASA's Sexual
Assault Resource Center makes information about sexual assault
and abuse issues widely available to victims, survivors, and their
families via this Web site and our toll-free information line, 1-888-995-7273
(Louisiana and Mississippi only). Referrals to appropriate local,
state, and federal agencies and organizations are also provided.
LaFASA has a library of approximately 3,500 books, videos, audio
tapes, manuals, journal articles, fact sheets, and other material
and resources. The Sexual Assault Resource Center Coordinator is
Misty Noble. Please note
that the toll-free information line is not a 24-hour crisis line.

Education
on Sexual Assault Issues—Education
is provided to the public, as well as sexual assault crisis centers
and allied professionals, through our quarterly newsletter, annual
statistics, workshops and conferences. To be added to our mailing

SANE
Program—LaFASA is working on the development, design,
and implementation of a statewide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
(SANE) Program, as well as a statewide protocol for forensic sexual
assault exams and evidence collection. SANE programs are used in
many communities to facilitate more efficient forensic examinations,
completed by a nurse who has been extensively trained in victim
sensitivity, evidence collection and preservation, injury documentation,
and testifying in court.
Consultation
and Technical Assistance—Free
consultation and technical assistance is available to social service
agencies, developing programs, schools, students, employers, and
anyone else seeking to learn more about sexual assault prevention
and intervention. This includes assistance with issues related to
sexual assault, such as sexual harassment, stalking, workplace violence,
and so on.
“Effective
Law Enforcement Response”—In
order to help accomplish our goal of eliminating sexual violence,
LaFASA offers this important training program. It is designed to
assist law enforcement in building the strongest case possible against
rapists. More Info...
Quality
Service Assurance—LaFASA works to ensure that quality
services are being provided to sexual assault and abuse victims
and survivors by coordinating peer monitoring of the state's sexual
assault crisis centers and encouraging the use of the Standards
of Service, Training, and Ethics developed by the centers.
Public
Policy—LaFASA seeks to improve conditions for sexual
assault victim/survivors by staying abreast of and assisting in
the development of public policy. This includes coordination with
state agencies and other statewide groups involved in crime victims'
rights, as well as state and federal public policy issues.
