LaFASA congratulates the following Senators who voted in favor of Senator Joel Chaisson’s (D- Destrehan) floor amendment that would have included exceptions to the abortion ban in case of rape and incest:

Sen. Cleo Fields
Sen. Francis Heitmeier
Sen. Ken Hollis
Sen. C.D. Jones
Sen. Bob Kostelka
Sen. Joe McPherson
Sen. Ed Murray
Sen. Derrick Shepherd
Sen. Joel Chaisson

Senate Pres. Don Hines, M.D.
Sen. Robert Adley
Sen. Robert Barham
Sen. Walter Boasso
Sen. Sherri Smith Cheek
Sen. Don Cravins
Sen. Jay Dardenne
Sen. Reggie Dupre

LaFASA is disappointed that the following Senators voted against the Chaisson floor amendment, thus indicating that they feel rape and incest victims should be forced to carry their rapists’ babies even if the rapist is an immediate family member:

Sen. Jody Amedee
Sen. Diana Bajoie
Sen. Sharon Weston Broome
Sen. James David Cain
Sen. Ann Duplessis
Sen. Noble Ellington
Sen. Clo Fontenot
Sen. Nick Gauteaux
Sen. Butch Gautreaux
Sen. Lydia Jackson
Sen. Art Lentini
Sen. Max Malone
Sen. Rob Marionneaux
Sen. Mike Michot
Sen. Willie Mount
Sen. Ben Nevers
Sen. Julie Quinnn
Sen. Craig Romero
Sen. Tom Schedler
Sen. Mike Smith
Sen. Gerald Theunissen
Sen. Chris Ullo

LaFASA thanks Representative Charlie DeWitt (D-Alexandria) for his unsuccessful attempt to amend SB 33 on the House floor to include exceptions in rape and incest cases.

We also thank Representative Diane Winston (R-Covington) for offering an unsuccessful amendment that would have required public hospitals to provide unbiased oral and written information about emergency contraception to all rape victims and to provide EC on request to any rape victim who asks for it. LaFASA is disappointed that the House of Representatives rejected both of these amendments.
